MediaTek Kompanio 1380 announced, aimed at premium Chromebooks. A brand new model of MediaTek’s Kompanio chipset range was announced and is aimed at high-end Chromebooks. Company 1380 is similar in specs to the previous Kompanio 1300T but lacks 5G connectivity.

The processor is built on 4x Arm Cortex A78 large cores, which can be clocked up to 3GHz, and 4x Arm-Cortex-A55 efficiency cores operating at speeds of up to 2GHz. The GPU part can be handled by Arm Mali G57, which comes a level up from the 1300T’s Mali G77 MC9.

The new chip also comes with MediaTek APU 3.0 with up to 16GB LPDDR4x RAM and the ability to support eMMC and UFS 3.1 as well as NVMe. Kompany 1380 can provide three different displays, with two panels running at up to 4K with 60 frames per second and a 1440p model that can run at 120 Hz. It also supports PCI-Express Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1.

The device supports Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5 connectivity. The Chromebook Spin 513 that Acer was announced the last month is the first device to hit the market with its Kompanio 1380 chip.
