Xiaomi 17 Pro Max Camera Falls Behind Flagship Rivals in DXOMARK Tests

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has spotted in DXOMARK’s camera test today. The flagship device has performed quite well, though it has failed to secure a place in DXOMARK’S top 10 list. In DXOMARK testing, rival flagship phones from Huawei, Google, Oppo, Apple, Honor, and even Motorola outperform Xiaomi’s flagship device.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max DXOMARK performance
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has received an overall camera score of 159 from DXOMARK. It earns 165 and 146, respectively, in photo and video segments.

On paper, the camera setup looks competitive, featuring a 50MP 1/1.28-inch main sensor with OIS and dual-pixel PDAF, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP periscope telephoto with OIS and a 115mm equivalent focal length.

In photo testing, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max performs at a very high level. The main camera captures accurate white balance, natural colours, and a strong balance between detail and noise. DXOMARK scores highlight this performance with 172 for outdoor and 161 for indoor shots. Portraits also stand out, scoring 155 thanks to realistic skin tones, high facial detail, and reliable subject separation.

Low-light photos remain competitive, with good detail and controlled noise across standard, portrait, and telephoto shots, though exposure can vary between captures and warm indoor lighting may add an orange tint. Zoom performance is mixed: the 5x optical telephoto works well at long range, but mid-range zoom relies on cropping from the main sensor, reducing detail, while extreme zoom can show unnatural AI textures.
Video performance holds the phone back. Despite strong exposure and dynamic range in bright conditions, stabilization feels weak for a flagship, with visible shake even when standing still. Inconsistent white balance and noticeable noise in low-light video further limit its ability to compete with top-tier camera phones.
