Xiaomi promising but ill-fated Android One phones. Following that the Google Play Edition programme was unsuccessful, Google worked with makers to design a new series made up of “pure Android” devices – Android One. The removal of bloatware was just one of the objectives, but One phones were different in comparison to Play Edition models in several different ways.

You can see this in the headline, we’re going to focus on just one specific segment that was released – four models by Xiaomi and their end-of-life was. The One program continues to exist and is mostly maintained by Nokia However, Google has switched to different methods of achieving the original objectives. 

The goals, for those weren’t aware were to create an affordable line of devices that could be used in emerging markets. Android One was designed to be compatible with systems that had little RAM , and also to conserve the battery to the maximum extent possible. The initial One handsets were built upon a standard platform and launched in 2014.

The later models came with a variety of hardware. Xiaomi was not the first to join the scene – its very first product was its Xiaomi Mi A1 was released out in the latter half of 2017. But it was one of the very initial Android One device to be accessible worldwide (in 37 countries). The same device was sold as the 5X model in China and was running Xiaomi’s standard MIUI software.The Mi A1 version came equipped with Android 7.1 Nougat. 

This was pure Android but Google permitted some maker applications to be preloaded in contrast to the more strict Play Edition phones. Additionally, Android One phones could be sold via the manufacturer’s normal retail channels, while the other models were restricted only to Google Play Store (a major reason for their failure). 

The high price also didn’t help. Contrary to what its name suggests that Mi A1 wasn’t a flagship device. Mi A1 didn’t actually have many things in common with its peers of Mi 5 series. Mi 5 series, which included the most powerful hardware. It had a decently sized 5.5″ Display with 1080p resolution and an IPL LCD (the Mi 5 had a 5.15″ display). It was a decent display that had great contrast but poor display color. The display was secured with Gorilla Glass 3 and the chassis was made of aluminum.
