Samsung plans to employ the main camera sensor from the Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy S23, and S23+ in the upcoming Galaxy S24/S24+ and Galaxy S25/S25+. Contrary to an earlier report suggesting a switch to a Sony-made sensor for the Galaxy S25/S25+, this information comes from Revegnus on X and indicates a consistent choice in camera sensors.
The Galaxy S23 and S23+ now use the ISOCELL GN3 sensor, featuring a 50MP 1/1.56-inch optical format with 1.0µm pre-binned pixels. This replaces the GN5 in the Galaxy S22 series, which had a similar 1/1.56-inch imager with 1.0µm pixels but with slightly varied frame rates at specific resolutions (slower at 50MP, faster at binned 12.5MP).
The 50MP sensor is large and not subpar. Future phones may enhance optics, lenses, and image processors in newer chipsets. Additionally, using a component for a longer duration allows for consistent image processing and easier production.
