Redmi Note 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max global debut with massive Si/C batteries, 120Hz OLED displays, and 4nm Snapdragon chips
Redmi has started its Note 17 series global rollout, along with the Indian market. As usual, the Global Redmi Note 17 series will differ from the recently launched Chinese Note 17 models. This series arrived with Redmi Note 17 5G, Note 17 4G, Note 17 Pro, and Note 17 Pro Max. Let’s take a look at the Pro variants first.
Redmi Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max Specifications
The Redmi Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max are both the successors to last year’s Redmi Note 15 Pro and 15 Pro+, respectively.
An ultra-bright 6.83-inch 120Hz OLED panel
Redmi Note 17 Pro and Pro Max both feature a 6.83” 120Hz OLED display with 1,280 x 2,772px resolution, 12-bit colors, and can reach up to 3,500 nits of brightness. This display also has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
Design and Durability
The phones weigh almost the same; the Pro weighs 223g, while the Pro Max weighs 225g. Both models also have the same 8.6mm thickness.
For endurance against water, this duo has got IP66 (water jets) and IP68 (submersion) ratings. Surprisingly, there won’t be an IP69K rating. However, Xiaomi claims the new phones offer better water resistance. They can stay submerged under 3 meters of water for up to 72 hours. In comparison, the 15 Pro models support 2-meter submersion for 24 hours.
Both use a 4nm Processor
The Pro variant is powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, and the Pro Max uses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 SoC. Both chips are built on a 4nm process and use the same 4x Cortex-A78 + 4x A55 CPU configuration, but the Gen 5 has a small clock speed advantage. The Pro Max has a slightly more powerful GPU, Adreno 812 vs. 710.
Both phones launch with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 and will receive 6 years of security updates.
On the storage front, the Pro can be configured with 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage, with UFS 3.1 for all but the base 128GB variant, which uses UFS 2.2. The Pro Max, meanwhile, offers 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM alongside the same 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB storage options. Here, though, the 256GB and 512GB variants get UFS 4.1 chips, promising sequential read/write speeds of up to 2,100MB/s. The base 128GB UFS 2.2 variant, on the other hand, only delivers 1,000MB/s.
Camera: 200MP main sensors are gone
The Pro Max also has an edge in the camera department. Xiaomi has dropped the 200MP sensors and their zoom capabilities. Instead, both of the 17 Pro variants have 50MP primary cameras and 8MP ultra-wide cameras. The Pro Max has a larger sensor (0.8µm pixels) as opposed to the Pro, which is 0.6µm pixels. It’s also available with an f/1.5 aperture, as opposed to the Pro’s f/1.8. The Pro Max also features a 32MP sensor and an f/2.2 lens for selfies and supports 4K video. In the Pro version, the camera is reduced to 16MP with an f/2.4 len.
Massive Si/C batteries : 8,340mAh vs 9,210mAh
The Redmi Note 17 Pro has an 8,340mAh Silicon-Carbon battery. This is a big upgrade from the 6,580mAh battery on the 15 Pro. Xiaomi says the phone can play video for 28 hours on a single charge. The increased capacity is paired with a faster 67W HyperCharge system, up from 45W, which can charge the phone to 50% in 34 minutes. The phone also supports 22.5W reverse charging, so you can top up other gadgets and even other phones.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is the same size as the Pro. The “Max” here refers to the larger 9,210mAh battery, which has 16% silicon content. According to official numbers, the phone can play video for 37 hours, game for 19 hours, or record video for 13 hours. It’s a big step up from the 6,500mAh battery on the 15 Pro+.
The Pro Max also carries over the same 100W HyperCharge system from the 15 Pro+. These higher power ratings are becoming a necessity as Si/C battery capacities keep growing. Xiaomi says you can get a full day’s charge in 20 minutes. Reverse charging is also slightly more powerful, at 27W.
Connectivity and other features
For network and connectivity, the Pro Max has got the better connectivity with Wi-Fi 6 (vs. Wi-Fi 5 on the Pro). Both phones support NFC and dual-SIM connectivity with an eSIM option.
Both of these duos have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. However, the Pro Max is louder, with a 400% volume boost compared to 300% on the regular Pro. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack on either phone. Bluetooth is version 6.0 on the Pro Max and 5.1 on the Pro.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max comes in Black, Green, Cloud Blush, and Purple colors. It starts at USD 499, and available in four storage options. The Redmi Note 17 Pro comes in Black, Sky Blue, Satin Orange, and Purple colors. It is available in five storage variants starting at USD 399.
