Reliable industry observer Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the switch to USB-C will take place in the second half of 2023, likely coinciding with the introduction of the iPhone 15 series. Even though only the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will have USB 3.2 standard or at least Thunderbolt 3, which should achieve up to 40 Gbps for data transfers, Kuo thinks Apple will add USB-C to its upcoming iPhone 15 models.

Like the currently available iPhones, the iPhone 15 and 15 Max will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds (up to 480 Mbps). Adding a high-speed USB-C port seems natural for Cupertino, given Apple’s lengthy history of introducing distinct features for its Pro and base iPhone models. Kuo suggests that Apple might upgrade the 15 Pro series with solid-state volume buttons. Possibilities are that the 15 Pro Max will get a periscope lens with a magnification of up to 6x.
