A new day, a new leak on the Honor Magic 9 series. Today, the new leak has unveiled the the full camera setup details and chipset of the upcoming Honor Magic 9 Pro.
According to the reliable leaker, Digital Chat Station’s Weibo post, the Honor Magic 9 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen6 (SM8975) chipset. This flagship monster would arrive with a 1:1 square selfie camera, which would make it the first Android phone with this format.
A square sensor can offer a wider field of view for selfies and vlogging. Users can also switch between portrait and landscape framing without rotating the phone. The leak claims Honor borrowed some technology from the Robot Phone for this front camera, they launched a few days ago.
Honor Magic 9 rear camera setup: Dual 200MP cameras
The rear camera setup matches several earlier leaks. It could feature a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, an f/1.57 aperture, and 3-degree OIS. A 50MP ultra-wide camera could sit alongside it.
The phone may also pack a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. It could use a 1/1.4-inch sensor with an f/2.6 aperture. DCS further claims, Honor will extend its ARRI partnership to the Pro model.
Other brands also picking up the race of square selfie cam
The square selfie camera is not entirely new information. Reports from May claimed that Honor was testing a similar sensor for the standard Magic 9. Oppo was also rumored to be working on the same format for the Find X10 series.
Honor could become the first brand to bring this camera format to market. Digital Chat Station also said Vivo is preparing its own square selfie camera for next year. This suggests more Chinese phone makers could adopt the format soon.
The Honor Magic 9 series is expected to launch in China around October. We should hear more details as the launch gets closer.
