Honor Magic 9 series launching today, everything you need to know before launch
Honor is launching the Magic 9 series in China today, and a new leak has revealed the specifications of the Magic 9, Magic 9 Pro Max, and Magic 9 Super Edition.
Honor has already confirmed the September 28 launch date, along with MagicOS 11 and a camera partnership with ARRI. However, most of the hardware details below are still based on leaks and have not been officially confirmed.
Honor Magic 9 key specs
The standard Honor Magic 9 is expected to feature a 6.37-inch flat LTPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset could power the phone, while an 8,000mAh battery may provide the power.
The camera setup could be one of the biggest highlights. The phone is reportedly getting a 200MP main camera, a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. On the front, Honor may use a 55MP square-shaped selfie sensor. The Magic 9 could support 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Honor Magic 9 Pro Max leaked specifications
The Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is expected to bring a larger 6.8-inch LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It could also use Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset.
The battery capacity may increase to 8,800mAh, while charging could reach 100W wired and 80W wireless.
Honor could also give the Pro Max a more advanced camera setup. The 200MP main camera is reportedly based on a 1/1.28-inch sensor, while the 200MP periscope telephoto camera could use a larger 1/1.4-inch sensor. The phone may also feature a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and 3D face unlock.
Honor Magic 9 Super Edition: the monster
The Magic 9 Super Edition could take a different approach by focusing heavily on battery life. According to the leak, it may pack a massive 11,000mAh battery while keeping the body just 8.1mm thick.
Honor could also add an active cooling fan to help manage heat. However, the Super Edition may make some compromises in other areas.
It is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 instead of the newer Gen 6 chip. The phone may also use an optical fingerprint scanner and a simpler camera setup with a 200MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 50MP 3x telephoto camera.
The 11,000mAh battery is easily the most unusual part of the Super Edition. If Honor manages to fit that capacity into an 8.1mm-thick body, it could make the phone one of the most battery-focused flagships in its class.
Honor has not yet confirmed the pricing for the three models. Based on the leaked specifications, each model appears to target a different segment. The Magic 9 could focus on a compact flagship experience, while the Pro Max may offer stronger performance, cameras, and charging. The Super Edition, meanwhile, appears to prioritize battery capacity above almost everything else.
