iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e tipped to get 9GB RAM with Apple’s 2nm A20 chip

Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup is still a long way from launch. However, fresh information from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed what the company could be planning for its next-generation non-Pro iPhones. According to Kuo, both the iPhone 18 and the rumored iPhone 18e may receive a RAM upgrade alongside Apple’s upcoming A20 chipset.

If the latest information is accurate, Apple could focus on improving everyday performance and AI capabilities while keeping production costs under control.

iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e Processor and RAM configuration tipped

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, both the iPhone 18 and the rumored iPhone 18e, which may launch in March or April 2027, could feature 9GB of RAM. That would be an upgrade over the 8GB RAM expected on the standard iPhone 17 models. The new memory configuration reportedly consists of six 1.5GB DRAM chips paired with Apple’s next-generation A20 processor.

Earlier reports suggested Apple could move to 12GB RAM across the lineup to support more advanced on-device AI features. However, Kuo claims Apple has scaled back those plans due to memory supply constraints and rising production costs.

The leak also suggests the A20 chipset will be built on TSMC’s 2nm process. Compared to the previous generation, the chip may deliver around 15% better CPU performance and up to 30% improved power efficiency. Those improvements could translate into faster performance, better battery life, and stronger AI processing.

Meanwhile, Apple may reserve 12GB RAM and the more powerful A20 Pro chipset for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company’s rumored foldable iPhone.

Apple has not officially confirmed any of these details yet. However, Ming-Chi Kuo has a strong track record with Apple-related leaks, making this one worth watching as development of the iPhone 18 lineup continues.
